“A true realist is a visionary” (F.Fellini)

My name is Flavia Rossi, I have a degree in architecture, but my profession is photographer for architecture studios.
I believe that collaboration, in particular between an architect and a photographer, is highly important. When the architect is creating a project, he has a mental image of it and it is up to the photographer to restore that image and also show certain aspects the architect had not considered.

My artistic career is inspired by many arts. Apart from various prizes, I have also won many international artistic residencies, such as the Designathon#1 part of the 26th Biennial of Design in Ljubljana and the Global Youth Culture Forum in Jeju Island, South Korea, where there was close collaboration between architecture and art.

In the latter I also asked to collaborate with the astronomer Gianluca Masi as my project was about constellations and light pollution.
Multidisciplinarity combines the highest levels in various sectors resulting in a superior product.

FLAVIA ROSSI

In 2016 I graduated at the Architecture faculty at the University of Rome La Sapienza, with a thesis on the Aesthetics of the Landscape (thesis supervisor: Stefano Catucci). In 2017 I graduated at the Master Iuav in Photography with a final mark of 110 with honors (thesis supervisors: Stefano Graziani and Filippo Romano) and I did an internship at ICCD in Rome. In 2018 I attended the Master Libro by D.O.O.R. in cooperation with Blank Paper and was selected for the Summer School by SISF. In 2019 I was selected for the workshop “Photography and Ritual: The Revealing Machine” with Alfonso Borragán at ISSP in Zaļenieki, Latvia.

In 2017 I published my photobook “Così nello sfavillio di un momento” and I won the Aldo Nascimben Prize organized by F.A.ST. in Treviso. In 2018 I was one of the 30 Under 30 Women Photographers chosen by Artpil and I was selected for the Global Youth Culture Forum curated by Rosa Pera and UCLG in Jeju Island, South Korea.

In 2019 I was shortlisted for three international photography festivals and I won four artistic residencies, one was the Designathon#1 part of the 26th Biennial of Design in Ljubljana, Slovenia at Mao, Museum of Architecture and Design. I won the Bando Atlante curated by MUFOCO in collaboration with Triennale Milano and DG AAP (Mibact). I have been nominated for PLAT(T)FORM 2020 organized by Fotomuseum Winterthur and for the third edition of Gabriele Basilico Prize.

My two solo shows, “Una geografia personale” at LO.FT in Lecce in 2018 and “Nuovo Patrimonio. Dalla calamità all’estetica del provvisorio” at Centro Studi Giorgio Muratore in Rome in 2019, were both curated by Niccolò Fano (director of Matèria gallery). I have worked professionally as a photographer for Mibact, Schiattarella Associati, SNA Susanna Nobili Architettura and Warehouse of Architecture and Research.
